Extended availability check (ATP) for shipping capacities

Consider the availability of products and transport capacities at the same time

To the Quick Facts

Implementation Highlights

  • Functional prototype after a very short time
  • Very good performance of the solution, also in the context of BOP
  • High stability, especially compared to the previous solution using quotas
  • Detailed, multi-stage check of capacities and material possible
  • Transparent modeling of the material flow
  • Rollout from sales company DE to other sales companies already planned

Challenges

  • Transport capacities in individual delivery regions are a limiting factor
  • The scheduling of the delivery or the planned goods issue must take into account the available transport capacity
  • The capacities refer to the transport volume and are defined on a daily basis
  • Product availability and availability of transport capacity must be taken into account simultaneously when confirming customer deadlines
  • Daily backorder processing (BOP) is an essential step, a solution must be integrated
  • High performance required due to large number of sales order items

Thanks to the close involvement of the specialist department and IT, we have already been able to reproduce results on a second-by-second basis in a test phase and with a claim to absolute accuracy. The current solution has set the course for future requirements at Miele sales companies.

Relevant processes

  • Sales order entry with ATP
  • Partial confirmations / splitting into schedule line quantities
  • Rescheduling / backorder processing (BOP)
  • Multi-stage check for the completion process
  • Reaction to deadline changes in the inbound chain
  • Overview of available transport capacities
  • Delivery system
  • Interaction with network planning (SNP)

The CONSILIO solution approach

Simulated production / transportation with Capable-to-promise (CTP)

  • Detailed testing of capacities and material also possible in combination with other test methods, e. g. multi-stage ATP
  • Transparent modeling and traceability
  • High performance of the CTP method also in the context of residue processing (BOP)

Components of the solution

  • Online ATP with shipping capacity check via additional sales order item and triggering of a CTP check
  • Integration of the shipping capacity check into backorder processing (BOP)
  • Combination of shipping capacity check with product availability, allocation and multi-level ATP
  • Differentiation between daily and weekly appointments
  • Expansion of the capacity evaluation to include key figures for the shipping capacity: occupied volume, requirements causing it
  • Resolving overdue allocations of shipping capacities, e. g. due to missed deliveries, via an automatic planning run
  • Evaluation of exceptions or alerts, e. g. capacity overload, deviation between confirmed date and capacity utilization
