TEUFELBERGER Implements SAP LGM with CONSILIO

The internationally active manufacturer of ropes and strapping solutions is modernizing its warehouse logistics. In Wels, SAP Logistics Management will initially be implemented alongside the existing Stock Room Management system for the personal protective equipment division. Additional locations are set to follow.

The Austrian rope specialist Teufelberger is a family-owned, internationally active group of companies headquartered in Wels, Austria. Since its founding in 1790, the company has evolved into a specialist in the field of fiber ropes, steel ropes, and strapping solutions. With approximately 1,300 employees at 14 locations worldwide, Teufelberger serves customers in the fields of crane and cable car technology, forestry, yachting and sailing, fall protection, tree care, industry, and cargo securing.

The diversity of the product portfolio brings with it a variety of logistics requirements—from warehouse operations to production supply. The first step in the modernization effort is taking place at the main site in Wels, where Teufelberger is initially implementing SAP Logistics Management (LGM) in the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) division. The solution is designed to support processes ranging from goods receipt through storage and staging to goods issue. This also includes supplying production and handling custom orders. The implementation is part of a long-term modernization of logistics and does not involve an immediate replacement of all existing systems.

With SAP LGM, we are creating a future-proof foundation for our warehouse logistics: a solution that grows with our needs and is continuously being refined. In CONSILIO, we have a partner who understands our processes and possesses the necessary expertise to successfully implement them.

Stock Room stays—LGM joins the lineup

In Wels, Stock Room Management will remain in operation alongside SAP LGM for the time being. Both solutions are organized using separate warehouse locations and independent warehouse numbers. The StRM warehouse serves as a replenishment warehouse for personal protective equipment (PPE): materials are stored there on pallets. Required partial quantities are physically removed and stored in the area managed by LGM. In this way, the solution mirrors the existing warehouse structures without unnecessarily complicating existing processes for users.

The processes place specific demands on the new system. These include batches with split-batch items, customer-specific inventories, EAN identifiers, and the integration of production supply and quality management. As the project progressed, it became apparent that the process landscape was more extensive than initially assumed. Individual functions had to be further developed or expanded in collaboration with SAP before they could be used to the planned extent.

Automated shipping labels – Picking still done on paper

For shipping, the plan is to integrate the SCT multi-carrier platform with SAP LGM. The first step will be to integrate GLS: shipping labels will be generated automatically, and tracking information will be processed within the system. Additional carrier integrations, including DHL Express, are planned.

Everyday work processes are also changing in the warehouse. The use of mobile devices has already marked an important step toward digitization. While putaway processes are already handled entirely paperlessly, picking lists are still used in the picking process due to the need for additional information. In a future expansion phase, these will also be replaced by digital information, making the entire process consistently paperless.

The goal, therefore, is not to eliminate all manual steps at once, but to digitize processes wherever possible within the specific workflow.

CONSILIO was responsible for the implementation of SAP LGM, including technical setup, interface development, and technical coordination. The team also supported the integration of warehouse and production processes and facilitated the transfer of expertise to Teufelberger’s IT department. According to project discussions, Teufelberger has already been able to largely drive the setup of the warehouse in Thailand independently.

Three locations by the end of 2026; Italy in 2027

Following the implementation in Wels, SAP Logistics Management is set to be rolled out in the Czech Republic and Thailand. The process mapping phase has been completed in the Czech Republic; Thailand is planned as a full-scale warehouse with integrated production processes. According to the project schedule, the go-live in Thailand is scheduled for mid-November 2026. By the end of 2026, three locations are expected to be equipped with LGM. Italy is planned for 2027.

In the long term, SAP LGM is set to replace Stock Room Management at additional locations. The SAP Logistics Execution Transportation solution currently in use is also expected to be replaced by corresponding functions within SAP Logistics Management. The specific steps involved will depend on location-specific processes and the ongoing implementation.

The challenge was to integrate SAP LGM with existing processes—such as physical replenishment from Stock Room Management or shipping processes.
