For the basic evaluation of the PP/DS functionality for use at Lanxess, CONSILIO created a concept and a prototype for a pilot scope in the first project phase.
In the subsequent implementation phase, the prototype functionality was expanded to include the specific requirements of bladder production planning. In principle, finite planning should be carried out for the primary resources involved and all relevant production resources, which simultaneously ensures production close to the demand date, short production throughput times and a sequence that is as set-up-optimised as possible. The PP/DS Optimiser was selected as the tool for scheduling.
In addition to regular background planning, additional control measures are taken by the planners via the PP/DS detailed planning board. The planners are notified of possible deadline violations via exception messages.
In this project, the structure of the master recipes was extended as a basis for the internal order relationships so that PP/DS optimisation takes these into account. The production data structures were deliberately not modelled/extended using BAdI functions, so that the implementation was largely carried out using SAP standard functions.
After going live in the first two plants, the PP/DS functionality is to be used as a template for the rollout in other plants. Lanxess is already benefiting from optimised PP/DS production planning in the short term before the ongoing introduction of S/4 HANA. When S/4 HANA goes live, the implemented planning process will continue to be used, so that additional complexity from the S/4 project could be shifted to the project carried out jointly by Lanxess and CONSILIO.
