Getzner Werkstoffe GmbH has built a new automated warehouse at its Bürs site, which had to be connected to the existing SAP system.
In contrast to the existing warehouses, the goods and materials in the automated warehouse are provided by a storage and retrieval machine across all shelf levels.
In the multi-vendor project with three partners, CONSILIO provided support with the design, implementation and integration.
The aim of the project was to connect a new automated warehouse to SAP via a WM blackbox scenario (WMS-WCU interface).
In addition to the basic configuration, the project focussed on the design and implementation of production provisioning scenarios.
After the initial configuration and the transfer of master, movement and classification data to the external system, the most challenging task of the project came to light: during production supply, batch determination was to take place in the external warehouse management system instead of in SAP during transfer order creation. As this cannot be realised in the SAP standard using the WCU interface, CONSILIO developed a corresponding solution that enables batch determination to be carried out first in the external system and then processed further in SAP.
As the intermediate products manufactured by Getzner are mostly stored in the form of rolled-up mats in the automated warehouse, the order-related provision of these materials for production was a further challenge: the orders sometimes only require partial quantities of an entire roll, which cannot be separated during retrieval.
CONSILIO was able to develop a solution here, whereby only partial quantities are requested during standard WM provision, but full rolls are always picked using an interface logic. The surplus quantity is temporarily stored in a supermarket close to the machine, from which other orders can also draw.
