Initial situation

The SAP rollout at DEHN took place at the Neumarkt site in 2014. The planned rollout was to include the locations in Austria, Italy, France, Poland, Denmark, Mexico, UK, India, South Africa and Switzerland. CONSILIO started with the development of the template for the rollout. This template included all relevant processes that were subsequently to be mapped in SAP at the above-mentioned locations. The third-party systems that had been in use up to that point were to be replaced by SAP.

The success of our SAP rollout projects is due in part to the professional and constructive cooperation between DEHN and CONSILIO.
In the course of various process workshops – both on site at the worldwide subsidiaries and at our headquarters – CONSILIO contributed with outstanding expertise and friendly demeanor to the fact that we were able to define and implement our processes in a targeted manner.

Challenges

A template approach was used for the SAP implementation, in which processes were defined for all locations in order to achieve a standardised and efficient implementation.

DEHN has production, sales and service locations in 20 countries. The biggest challenge was to fulfil the local and legal requirements of the different countries and to map these requirements in the template solution.

At the beginning of the project, the mixed project team (DEHN and CONSILIO consultants) carried out on-site fit-gap analyses in which gaps between the customer's processes and the template were identified. The identified process gaps were closed in prototypes, presented in demos on site and gradually refined before they were tested, the users were trained and the processes went live.

Many new processes were added to the template, such as consignment warehouse processing, cost-based invoicing in the IC process, subcontracting and a lean production process. In addition, product cost planning for the rollouts was optimised.

Data migration and mapping between the different systems posed a particular challenge when replacing the site-specific systems.
