With the SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit, SAP offers a simple, very efficient method of migrating template-based master and transaction data from SAP and non-SAP systems to SAP S/4HANA.
In a classic data migration, data is moved from one system to another. OUT-OF-THE-BOX USABLE
In contrast to the predecessor tool LSMW, Migration Cockpit is a typical ETL tool (Extract transform load) that can be used out-of-the-box. This means that the tool has numerous preconfigured migration objects, so-called templates, which are already defined accordingly in the mapping. They are based on the standard and SAP best practices. Users can therefore already build on a solid basis when migrating data - which means a considerable saving of work for IT. Migration objects are available for master and transaction data. As the SAP Migration Cockpit evolves with S/4HANA, new migration objects are added with each subsequent release. On their website, the Walldorf-based company lists all currently integrated templates. In the best case, i.e., when the source system fully complies with the SAP standard, the data migration can be carried out with just a few clicks, with a wizard providing support for the correct configuration.
THREE MIGRATION SCENARIOS ARE AVAILABLE
The Migration Cockpit supports the Business Suite or legacy systems as data sources. The following three scenarios are possible for the data transfer:
- Use of files (e.g. Excel templates)
- Use of staging tables
- RFC direct connection between legacy system and S/4HANA
For direct transfer from a legacy SAP ERP system to S/4HANA, the DMIS 2011 SP 19 component must be installed on the source system so that an RFC connection to S/4HANA can be established.
